AIUインターン日記～Daily of internship students from Akita International University～「こんにちは！カリーナです」

わらび座は新たな取り組みとして、9月から12月まで、国際教養大学（AIU）の学生2名のインターン生を受け入れています。これは、国際教養大学がコロナウイルス感染拡大防止のため2020年4月から1年間キャンパスや寮が閉鎖されオンライン授業を継続せざるを得ない中、学生の皆様の住居の確保や、社会との新たな出会いの場づくりとして実施されるものです。このブログでは、4か月という限られた期間ですが、インターン生から見た、わらび座・秋田の姿を、日々の仕事を通じて綴っていきたいと思います。
第2回目は、カザフスタン出身のカリーナさんの自己紹介です。

From September to December, Warabiza accepts two internship students from Akita International University. From April 2020, Akita International University closed the campus, and they provide all online courses in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Thus, we think we can help the students by offering accommodations and providing new connections for students and the local community in Akita. Although the period is limited, we will tell you the feelings and the perspectives of the two students for Warabiza and Akita.

国際教養大学国際教養学部の4年回生のダウルバエバ　カリーナと申します。カザフスタン出身です。９月から、１２月までわらび座でインターンをしています。これから、わらび座での経験をブログに載せていきます。よろしくお願いします。子供の頃から、日本に興味を持ち、2015年に日本に参りました。日本に興味を持つようになったきっかけは、読書です。私の母から、村上春樹、安倍公房、遠藤周作などの日本の作家を紹介されました。
1年半東京の語学学校で日本語を勉強し、秋田の国際教養大学に進学しました。留学先として、国際教養大学を選んだ理由は、日本の田舎生活の体験ができ、日本人の学生と数多くの留学生が一緒に勉強することで、自分の価値観を広げることができるからです。2年間秋田に滞在して、大学の3年目は、オーストラリアのメルボルンに留学に行きました。そちらの大学では、主に政治学の授業を受け、中東と南アジアからオーストラリアに移動する難民たちの問題を勉強しました。今年の1月は、秋田に戻ってきて、このテーマについて卒業論文を提出しました。

Hello!

My name is Karina and I am going to be an intern at Warabi-za until December. This is my first blog post, so I would like to introduce myself first. I am a student of Akita International University and this is actually my last semester at university. I am originally from Kazakhstan and I have lived in Japan for four years already.

私は観光業界に興味を持ち、わらび座でインターンを始めました。インターンをしている間には、観光プロモーション、イベント開催、プロモーション動画作成、動画編集などのことを身に付けたいです。そして、芸術に関する会社でのインターンシップはとても面白い体験になると考えました。また、芸術について自分の知識を深めることができると思いました。秋田には、もうほぼ3年間滞在していましたが、インターンの前には、わらび座について聞いたことがなかったです。秋田と言えばは、森、田んぼとクマというイメージを持っていたので、秋田には芸術村があると思わなかったです。しかし、秋田が好きだから、これから、わらび座と秋田への観光のために役に立ちたいです。

I started an internship at Warabi-za because I thought that would be an interesting experience and I would learn more about arts. The main objective of this internship is to help Warabi-za with the development of tourism during and after the pandemic. As people in Japan are still encouraged to stay in, Warabi-za is facing many difficulties this year. Therefore, Warabi-za is currently developing online services for the tourists, such as online tours and performances. I would like to put efforts into helping Warabi-za during this hard time and hopefully, I will learn more about holding events, shooting and editing promotion videos.

将来は、観光業界で働きたいと思っていますので、今度のインターンは良い体験になると思います。なぜかと言うと、出身地のカザフスタンでは、綺麗な観光地が多いですが、国外にあまり知られていないです。カザフスタンとは、中国とロシアの間に位置している旧ソ連の国です。キルギス語、ウズベキスタン語、トルコ語と似ているカザフ語がしゃべられています。そして、カザフスタンでは、ロシア人、ウクライナ人、ポーランド人などの民族が住んでいるので、ロシア語もよく使われています。以下の写真は、生まれてきたアルマトイ市です。ソ連時代の建築が多く、豊かな自然に囲まれているカザフスタンの最大の都市です。将来は、自分の国のために役にたちながら、カザフスタンのいいところを世界に届けたいです。

Moreover, I am interested in tourism and in the future, I am hoping to work in this industry. I would like to promote tourism in Kazakhstan and draw more attention to the tourist attractions of my country. Kazakhstan has many picturesque locations, such as forests, deserts, ski resorts and lakes surrounded by mountains. This is the photo of Almaty, the city where I was born. This city has a history of the Soviet capital and therefore, Almaty has many Soviet era sites as well as the mountains surrounding the city.

9月になり、わらび座がある仙北市に到着し、寮に移動しました。新型コロナウイルスの感染を予防するために、2週間の自主隔離をしていました。この間には、わらび座の歴史、考え方とミッションについて勉強しました。わらび座とは、劇場だけであると思いましたが、ついにわらび座の社会への貢献が理解できるようになりました。わらび座は、まず、秋田で芸術を代表していますが、芸術以外の事業も行います。たとえば、わらび座はもう40年間以上秋田への修学旅行を行っています。日本全国の各地域の子供たちは、秋田に来たり、秋田の農家さんに受け入られたり、伝統的な農業、稲刈り、収穫などを勉強したり、すごく楽しそうです。また、秋田に修学旅行に来て、劇場と温泉を楽しむことができ、秋田の美味しい料理を味わうこともできます。

Before coming to Warabi-za, I did not have a proper grasp of the company‘s mission or history. I found it fascinating that Warabi-za actually started from few people who came all the way from Tokyo to Akita, a rural prefecture in the Northern part of Japan. These few people came to Akita and started a theater here almost 70 years ago and today, Warabi-za is not only a theater. Warabi-za also includes onsen, a traditional Japanese hot spring, a hotel and the restaurant serving local craft beer. But what I found the most fascinating feature about Warabi-za is that this company actually has very close ties with the farmers of Akita.

秋田では、高齢化が早く進み、子供たちが少ないです。高齢の農家の皆様の中には、孤独を感じる方もおられるかもしれません。そんな中、農家皆様は子どもたちを受け入れ、農業を教え、楽しい雰囲気を作れると考えます。子どもたちは、農業を学び、田舎生活を体験し、子供たちは、将来に農業で働きたらきたくなる可能性があると考えます。だから、わらび座の事業はとても大事なことであると考えます。

Japan is well known for its demographic crisis and aging population, and the problem is especially noticeable in countryside Japan, like Akita. Akita prefecture mainly specializes in the production of rice and other cultures, mostly the people involved in agriculture in Akita are elderly and the youth tends to leave for the large cities. However, such companies as Warabi-za manage to attract young people to Akita. I thought that Warabi-za was only a theater but then I found out that Warabi-za has been organizing trips to Akita for the school students for more than forty years. On these trips, school children come to Akita, stay with the farmers and experience traditional agriculture of Akita, visit hot springs and enjoy performances at Warabi Theater.

これから、わらび座でインターンしながら、わらび座とわらび座の周辺エリアのいいところを伝えたいです。あきた芸術村には、わらび劇場、ゆぽぽ温泉、田沢湖ビールレストランが位置し、秋田の魅力の一つです。そして、あきた芸術村の周辺には角館、田沢湖、乳頭温泉や抱返り渓谷などの秋田の有名な観光地があるので、秋田の見どころとしてあきた芸術村をアピールしたいです。こちらは、最近抱返り渓谷のエリアに撮った写真です。インターンのうちに、わらび座で働きながら、周辺のエリアを探索したいです。

I believe that these tours organized by Warabi-za are actually very beneficial for Akita Prefecture. Not only do these trips seem like a memorable fun trip for children, but also the children spend time with farmers and learn traditional agriculture methods. These tours manage to bring the youth to Akita and after experiencing the countryside life and rice-picking, I believe that some of these children ,ight become interested in agriculture and come back to Akita or Tohoku region in general. Overall, I find it a very important contribution for AKita Prefecture that Warabi-za promotes local tourism and attracts people to experience country life and traditional agriculture.

Even though I have lived in Akita for a few years now, I have never been to the Akita Art Village before. When I arrived here, I was astonished with the location of this place as Akita Art Village is located near Dakigaeri Gorge, Tazawa Lake and the famous Nyuto Onsen. I am more than happy to experience this beautiful place and work here for the next few months. Akita Art Village is located between the most scenic sites of Akita Prefecture and I think more people should know about Warabi-za when visiting Akita Prefecture.
